POD Tournament! March 1-3, 2019

POD 2019

The Academy Hockey Club is proud to announce an exciting new tournament for Ohio High School Athletic Association participating ice hockey programs…THE POD (Post OHSAA District) TOURNAMENT!

To date, Beavercreek High School and LaSalle (Cincinnati) have committed to the POD tournament, while Troy (OH) High School, Archbishop Alter High School (Dayton) have expressed interest.

THE POD (Post OHSAA District) is intended to provide a post OHSAA District tournament option for teams ranking in the lower half of the state according to myhockeyrankings.com (which constitute Division 2 in other OHSAA sports). “We just can’t stand to see a high school senior end their career on the wrong side of a lopsided tournament game” said Matt Belmonte on the Academy Board. “So we created the POD as an option for the teams to have a better end-of-season, and for senior players, a better end of career experience.”

Games will be played at the NTPRD Chiller in Springfield OH, March 1-3, 2019. “Three Southwest Ohio High School Hockey League teams have already expressed interest,” said Jeff Duford, the Academy Treasurer, “You just have to make sure not to exceed the season 35-game limit set by OHSAA administrators,” said Greg Gutterman the Academy’s President.

Black beats Blue in 2018 Championship!

Black beats Blue 6-2 to win the 2018 AHC Tournament! Gold defeated Green in the Consolation game 7-6.

Thanks to everyone who participated in the 2018 AHC Fall League including the players and their families, our sponsors, and our hard working volunteers.  Best wishes to all players and High School teams for a great season in 2018-19. Do well in the OSHAA tournament to represent South West Ohio varsity hockey, and if you unfortunately have an early exit your team can still end the season on a positive note in the post season AHC 2019 POD Tournament. See the link above for details. Good luck!

– 3 min warmup, 2-20 min periods, 5 min shootout
– 2 points for a win, 1 for a tie. All games end with a Shootout worth 1 point (3 points max per game)
– last league game is 1st v 2nd (championship) and 3rd v 4th
– skills session led by Coaches Thomas and Mathis and Lantry (goalies) to complete season and get players ready for high school tryouts
– USA hockey rule book (e.g. Fighting or other match penalties mean you are out for current game plus 1 game)

Let us know if you have a question, and Remember, It’s always a great day for hockey!
